Five small steps. One real pact.

How many weeks are you in for?
Miss a day and your stake is charged, but a 5-day comeback wins most of it back.
How many weeks
Last day
This week counts as week 1. It can't be cancelled early. It ends on its own that day.
A "mark as done" button is easy to fool at 11pm. Commity's check-in is different: when you arrive you tap I'm here, and a live GPS check has to confirm you're actually at the library before a single minute counts.
Set a daily minute goal — 15, 30, 60, whatever "showing up" means for you.
Tap to check in, then put your phone away — your minutes keep counting in the background.
Smart tracking ignores GPS wobble, so a noisy signal never ends your visit early.
Between lectures
One free hour, actually used.
The gap between lectures is where study plans go to die. Here's what it looks like when an hour has a price on it.
11:50 — lecture out, library in
Five minutes across campus and one tap on "I'm here." GPS confirms you're inside the fence and the clock starts.
11:52 — phone face-down
Flashcards, problem sets, the reading you said you'd do. Minutes count in the background, and leaving the fence pauses them.
12:52 — goal hit, lunch earned
Sixty verified minutes before the afternoon slot. Today counts, your streak grows, and the stake stays where it belongs.
Home shows every pact and where it stands. The Journal shows who’s showing up with you. Grit keeps score.

GPS check-in tracker
Pin your gym or library on the map. When you arrive, one tap checks you in and GPS has to confirm you're really there before a single minute counts.
Counting stops when you finish or if you leave early
The moment you hit your daily goal, the session ends on its own. If you leave early, you must return inside the radius in order to continue. There's no check-out button to forget.
Rest days respected
No tracking, no pressure, and never a charge on days you didn't schedule.

The comeback
A slip isn't the end. It's a 5-day comeback.
Most habit apps punish a slip and walk away. Commity gives you a way back. If your stake ever does get charged, you have 30 days to start a comeback.
Put together a streak of 5 days which you can schedule in the next 5 weeks and up to 66% of your money comes back (51% on the free plan). Show up from the start and you're never charged at all — the door is never locked.
Pick 1, 2, 4, 8 or 12 weeks. The week you sign up counts as week 1, and the commitment ends on its own on the last Sunday. No cancelling halfway, which is the point.
1–2 weeks · the deadline sprint
An essay due Friday or a presentation next week. A short term with daily library sessions gets it written instead of "started".
4–8 weeks · midterms and finals
Count back from your last exam and pick the term that covers it. Three or four library days a week beats one heroic all-nighter.
12 weeks or Ongoing · the long haul
A thesis, the bar exam, a language certificate. Go 12 weeks for a full term, or Ongoing to renew weekly until you're done.
For students
Study accountability, explained.
Study timers and planners trust you to be honest at 11pm. A commitment device doesn't have to.
What is a study accountability app?
An app that notices when you don't study. Most are timers you can pause or logs you fill in yourself. Commity checks with GPS that you're actually at your study spot and puts a small stake on each scheduled session, so skipping costs money and showing up costs nothing.
How do I hold myself accountable for studying?
Make the plan specific, make it checkable, and give skipping an immediate cost. In Commity that means a place (your library or café), a daily minute goal, the days you'll go, how many weeks you're in for, and a stake you'd hate to lose.
How long should I commit for during exam season?
Pick a term that ends after your last exam. If finals are seven weeks away, choose 8 weeks: the week you sign up counts as week 1 and the commitment ends on its own on the final Sunday. A midterm block fits 4 weeks; a thesis or long self-study plan fits Ongoing.
Can I use Commity to study at home?
Commity only counts minutes inside the place you pin, so it works best for somewhere you have to go: a library, reading room, café or co-working space. Getting out the door is usually the hard part, and that is exactly the part Commity checks.
Is Commity affordable for students?
Yes. The free plan covers three commitments, and stakes start at $5. What matters is that it stings a little, not the size. Show up and you pay $0. Premium ($4.99/month) is only for running more than three goals at once.
Can I study with friends on Commity?
Yes. Add friends in your profile and the leaderboard switches to just your circle, ranked by Grit from the days you each showed up. Everyone keeps their own stake and their own spot.
Exam-season playbook
Set it up once. Let the weeks do the work.
Spaced, repeated sessions are how material sticks. These three settings make that the easy path.
Start on a Monday
The week you sign up counts as week 1, so signing on a Monday gives you a full first week instead of a short one.
Set the floor, not the dream
Choose the minutes you can hit on your worst day, 45 to 60 is plenty. You can always stay longer; the goal is never missing.
Schedule rest on purpose
Pick study days around your timetable. Days you don't schedule are never tracked or charged, so a lab day or shift never costs you.
“I always had the will on Sunday night, but as soon as Monday morning came, it was ‘maybe next week.’ So I built Commity. Now missing a commitment has an instant consequence. Losing a couple of bucks gives you a ‘let's just do this’ feeling rather than the one where you just stay in bed.”

“I'm pretty consistent, but there are days when I just need a push, and Commity does it for me. Some days, the thought of losing 50 bucks for skipping the thing I wanted just the night before is enough to send me there… :)”

“I really like the app and It's features. I needed an app for motivation and when I had similar apps I could just lie about going to the library to study. However, Commity needs your phone to be in the desired location in order to complete the task! I like that feature very much. Also, at first I was using free trial, but now motivation is even higher when there is real money at stake.😁”

Questions
The honest answers.
How does Commity know I actually showed up?
When you create a commitment you pin a place and a radius — your "geofence." When you arrive you open Commity and tap I'm here, and a live GPS check has to confirm you're actually inside that area before a single minute counts — so there's nothing to fake from the couch. From then on it's automatic: Commity logs your minutes and ends the day on its own the moment you hit your goal.
Is Commity free? Do I need a credit card?
Yes. Commity is free to use: the free plan runs three commitments at a time with a 51% comeback. You add a card when you start a commitment so a stake can back your goal, but you're charged $0 for as long as you show up on your scheduled days. Premium is optional at $4.99/month and adds unlimited commitments, a 66% comeback, three Journal posts a day and a checkmark by your name.
What does Premium include?
Premium is $4.99/month and adds unlimited commitments at once (free runs three), a 66% comeback instead of 51%, three Journal posts a day instead of one a week, and a checkmark by your name. What you don't win back after a miss is donated each month to a charity you pick (UNICEF, WWF, Helen Keller Intl or Doctors Without Borders, or one you suggest), and you get the charity's receipt by email. In a duo challenge, a missed stake goes to charity in full (less card fees) instead of 75%. It's billed by the App Store or Google Play and you can cancel anytime. Compare Free and Premium.
How do duo challenges work?
Challenge a friend with a link or a code. You each make your own pact with your own stake, and both end on the same Sunday. The first to miss a scheduled day pays a charity the other one picks, never the friend: 75% of the missed stake on the free plan, or all of it minus card fees on Premium. Duos run on fixed terms of 1 to 12 weeks, there’s no comeback in a duo, and no money ever moves between users.
Can I commit for just one day?
Yes. On the goal step, switch to Just one day and pick today or tomorrow. It works like any pact, with the same GPS check-in and stake, and it ends on its own at midnight. Today is only offered while there’s still time to hit your goal. Miss it and the usual 5-day comeback opens.
What if there’s no signal at my gym or library?
Tap I’m here anyway. GPS works without a data connection, so Commity still checks you’re inside your spot, times the visit on your phone, and syncs it as soon as you’re back online. A basement gym or a library with thick walls won’t cost you a day.
Are my payments safe?
Yes. All payments are handled by Stripe — the same secure payments platform trusted by millions of businesses worldwide. Your full card details are stored by Stripe, never by Commity, and everything is encrypted end to end.
When exactly am I charged?
Only when you miss a day you scheduled. Show up on every scheduled day and the charge is automatically $0. There are no surprise fees, no subscriptions to your stake, and nothing ever happens on your rest days.
Does tracking stop once I hit my daily goal?
Yes. The moment you reach your minutes for the day, your day is marked complete and tracking stops automatically. You don't need to check out or remember to close anything — it just knows you're done.
What about my rest days?
Rest days are fully respected. On days you didn't schedule, nothing is tracked and nothing counts against you — no check-ins, no pressure, no charge. Rest is part of the plan, not a penalty.
What happens if I miss a day?
Your stake is charged, but you get a comeback. Start a 5-day streak within 30 days and win back 51% of the charge on the free plan, or 66% with Premium. Commity punishes a slip lightly and rewards the return.
How is Commity different from StickK or Beeminder?
StickK and Beeminder proved that money on the line works — but both still rely on self-reporting or manual data entry. Commity closes that gap: a live GPS check-in confirms you're actually at your gym, library or studio, so there's no honor system to cheat. And a slip isn't just punished — you can win up to 66% of your stake back with a 5-day comeback. Read the full breakdowns: Commity vs Beeminder and the best StickK alternative.
Will it drain my battery running GPS all day?
Commity is built to be light on battery, and it only ever watches the one spot you pinned — never everywhere you go. On the days you've scheduled it does check your location in the background, so it can tell when you arrive and keep your timer running even with the app closed. To save power it stays on low accuracy while you're away from your spot and only switches on precise GPS once you're nearby — then it idles automatically the moment you hit your goal, and stays off entirely on your rest days.
Do I have to keep the app open?
Only for the tap. You open Commity and tap I'm here when you arrive — after that you can close it and your timer keeps counting in the background until you hit your goal. Reminders are scheduled on your phone too, so they fire even if the app is closed or your phone restarts.
Is Commity on iPhone and Android?
Both. Commity runs natively on iOS and Android with the same check-in, streaks, reminders and comeback system on each.
How long does a commitment last? Can I cancel?
You choose when you create it: just one day (today or tomorrow), 1, 2, 4, 8 or 12 weeks, or Ongoing. A fixed term counts the week you sign up as week 1, ends on its own on its last Sunday, and can't be cancelled early, which is the point. A one-day pact ends at midnight. An Ongoing commitment renews every week until you cancel, and a cancellation takes effect that Sunday. You're only ever charged for a scheduled day you missed.
